We have been away for a few days. Travelled north first to Alnwick. This is only about 30 miles from the Scottish border.
There is an absolutely massive book shop there called Barters Books. Not new books, they just offer used, second hand, pre-enjoyed, whichever description suits.
They have books costing between Two Pounds and Sixty Pounds. The expensive ones are first editions or signed by the author (or both).
There are four stands containing my sort of books, Thriller, Police Procedural, Mystery. Several hundred books on each stand. These four stands comprise no more than 5% of the total number of books.I have never seen a used book shop anywhere near the size of this one.
Ten minutes walk away is another one, not as big but still a good selection, amazing, two good book shops in this small town, population around 8000. I bought 5 books, could probably have found 20 with more time (and more money)
From there we moved on south and east, travelled through the Tyne Tunnel and on to Redcar, Saltburn and Whitby. All places by the sea.
Had a good time away, weather very pleasant, dry with some sun everyday. Temps only around mid 50's but about what would be expected at thos time of year

Wow. That sounds nice YB... did u know about all the books before u left or stumbled on it in the town? I'd LOVE to go to Scotland. I watch what I can on the topic. Nice that y'all go out got away. So Scotland is how far in hours from u? And GIS, he's there, right? Yep, love this Fall weather. Today will be 87 - our LAST hot day of the year, I think.

We don't get an enormous amount of snow, Dan. About twice during the winter we will have an odd day when it snows, often it melts the day after, sometimes lingers for 2-3 days.
On the day it does come though it causes absolute havoc on the roads. It's not too bad where we live because we are quite close to the hospital so our roads are kept fairly clear. Others who live 4/5 miles from town have it a bit worse.

I would've thought that y'all would've had a lot of snow you're so much higher up than we are but that sounds exactly like us IF we get snow It's usually a good three or four day snow about every four years otherwise we get three or four dustings ~but here as you can imagine we get more ice and no one can drive on that not here anyway it's a big cluster. The schools will shut down just in anticipation the grocery stores run out of food the people up North laugh at us.
We should trade pictures this year. What about you, Dan?

Scotland is around three and a half to four hours from us depending on which route you take. To travel up the west side of England via the M6 road is abouyt thirty minutes less than taking the A1 road along the eastern side. Scotland's two main cities Edinburgh and Glasgow are about 40 miles from the border. Gis lives a lot further north than those, I'd guess it would take 6 hours without a stop to drive from our house to his
